a coconut breve and an americano with room

IMG_6978

I'm home for spring break this week and very much enjoying relaxing and not writing papers. I spent the weekend hanging out around the house with my mom and my grandparents, and today I met up with Lena for coffee.
We went to our regular spot, Jameson Brown. Lena introduced me to it a few years ago and it has (in my humble opinion) the best coffee in the world. I'm hooked on their Coconut Breves.
I hope your Monday was as lovely as mine. :]

Bittersweet

Bittersweet with Nicole

It may be the first day of spring, but it's rainy here so Nicole and I decided to make a spontaneous trip to Bittersweet today.

If you live in the Bay Area and like chocolate then you have to get a hot chocolate from Bittersweet, it is the best hot chocolate I've ever had.

Lena's Visit

As you can see, I'm still working out the kinks with this whole posting regularly thing. We'll get there! I promise.

Last weekend my friend Lena came up from LA to visit me during her spring break. It was so nice having her here! I've never had a friend has come up to Mills to see me before.

I've been up here for so long that I'm used to everything, but Lena had never been to Mills, so when I was showing her around it felt like I was seeing everything with new eyes. I kept remembering what it was like to see the bay area for the first time and it was nice to get to see it from that perspective again. This might just be a symptom of my senioritis though. Any excuse to get sentimental as graduation approaches.

But anyway, we spent a lot of the weekend in San Francisco wandering around the Mission and Japantown and we got to catch a few of the Signal Flow concerts, which were excellent. It was so awesome that it makes me sad that it'll probably be the last time that I have someone visit me up here! There I go again with the sentimentality.

cemetery drive

Today me and Estrella wandered around a really beautiful cemetery. It was kind of a morbid place for a Saturday afternoon stroll, but it was really interesting looking at all of the old headstones and wondering about the lives of the people those stones commemorated. Also we kept passing a couple with an adorable Yorkie puppy who obviously wanted to come home with me because she kept running up to me.

It was a nice Saturday, but the moral of this post is that I absolutely need to start carrying a camera with me at all times so I can capture these spontaneous moments.

Bonjour/Hola/Hello

I had the great idea to take French IV and an upper division Spanish class this semester (La Literatura de Viaje, if you were wondering).

I have to say I'm not sure it was one of my better ideas. I keep thinking of Spanish words when I'm trying to speak French, and vice versa.

I'll either end this semester being nearly trilingual, or unable to form a coherent sentence in any language.

the last first day of school

I had quite a busy day today! I decided at the last minute to take French IV which means that my Wednesdays now start at 8:30 am and end at 5 pm. It felt like I was running around all day going back and forth between classes and work, but the highlight of the day was going to the opening of the Hung Liu exhibit at the art museum. I didn't get any pictures [I really need to get into the habit of carrying my camera with me], but it was nice spending time with friends and enjoying the free food. And the art of course. :]

All in all if first days are any indication of how the semester will go, I think me and this semester will get along just fine.
